According to a study released in April by the Aspen Appraisal Group, Aspen-area real estate prices fell between 20 and 40 percent. The report, “Aspen/Snowmass Market Overview: 2009 Year End Review and A Look at What's Ahead,” also says that area real estate has been somewhat insulated from national economic downturns in the past. Tough times had brought fewer sales and lower overall volume, but property had traditionally kept its value. The current recession was so severe that even Aspen didn't escape unscathed.
